Manager, Cost Accounting (Burnaby, CA)

Ballard Power Systems is looking to fill the position of Manager, Cost Accounting. With global operations, multiple currencies, and public company requirements, this position will keep you challenged. The successful candidate will work with Finance, Operations, Product Line Management, and After-Sales Support to lead analysis and decision support on all aspects of product costing, gross margin reporting, inventory valuation, and warranty. Key Responsibilities:

  • Heavy involvement in the annual operating plan
  • Monthly cost accounting activities (i.e., journal entry review, inventory and warranty account reconciliations, and SOX checklist)
  • Monthly management reporting package
  • Preparing and revising forecasts
  • Business partner and trusted advisor to Operations, Product Line Management, and After-Sales Support
  • External financial reporting requirements at quarter- and year-end
  • Support during external audit activities—especially at year-end
  • Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and audit
  • Year-end physical inventory
  • Design of new processes and improvement of existing ones
  • Management and development of a team of two cost accountants
  • Other duties or projects as required

Requirements:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Thorough understanding of IFRS accounting standards (especially COGS and inventory valuation)
  • 7+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing company
  • Understanding of theory of constraints and throughput accounting preferred
  • Proficiency in MRP/ERP systems and MS Office applications
  • Leadership experience in management accounting, budgeting and development of cost accounting processes
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience working with senior managers
  • Self-starter, customer service-oriented and able to work within or lead a cross-functional team
  • Practical, hands-on approach to analysis with ability to influence
