Cutting edge - TOSA electic bus

White and red bus

r2p is especially happy to have received this order from the company Carrosserie Hess AG in Switzerland: 12 electric busses of the TOSA version will be equipped with r2p gear. The busses are for the operator tpg of the city of Geneva. tpg has been on the news with the TOSA bus already a year ago.

What is so special about this electric bus? Well, its lightweight batteries load within 15 seconds through something the Swiss call “Flash-Lader” (loosely translated at “flash charger”). At every fourth bus station a loading arm on the roof of the bus, connects within seconds with a device mounted on the bus station and charges 600 kilowatt energy each time. Apart from being able to work without overhead contact lines, these electric busses don’t need heavy batteries, that saves weight, which in return can be used for more passengers. Additional to the quick charges in between, the busses charge at the end of their respective route and also use their breaking energy as they operate. The Swiss company ABB developed this quick charging system in cooperation with three further partners.

The city of Geneva is trend-setting with this project. We at r2p are proud to be a part of this, especially because we are known for our passion to lower emissions.

“It is fantastic to see, that these TOSA vehicles are now going to be mass produced. Already back in 2013 I remember a TOSA bus taking me to the UITP exhibition. We rode on the test route from the airport to the exhibition halls. This project – once more – shows that long term partnership and mutual trust are the foundation of such projects.” says René Seliger, Project Director and Shareholder of r2p.
