About the Role

As a Business Analytics Manager at Passport, you will be providing the source of truth on key business metrics across the company.  You’ll partner with stakeholders in different parts of the organization in order to establish and deliver consistent quantitative measures of business performance, including regular reports, business dashboards, and ad-hoc queries as necessary. You will serve as the go-to resource for business insights that can be derived from data that lives in a number of repositories across the company, and you’ll champion analyzing that data to help us drive our ambitious growth goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Effectively prioritize, manage, and deliver on a roster of projects driven by multiple stakeholders across the organization.
  • Assess the data necessary to answer key business questions and define requirements that may be necessary to fill in any gaps identified.
  • Be resourceful in identifying sources of data that can be useful to generating new insights to drive better decision making and growth for our business.
  • Assist in creating the right data aggregation strategies for massive data repositories in order to facilitate efficient queries and reporting.
  • Manage and occasionally evaluate our business intelligence toolset to explore additional opportunities for enhancing our capabilities.
  • Keep up with the latest best practices in the field of business intelligence, raising those that may be relevant to Passport’s business to the team for discussion.
  • Collaborate with and encourage Passport managers and leaders to become better at incorporating data into decision making.
  • Maintain and develop Passport’s organizational dashboards and deeper level tools for self-service insights.
  • Highlight stand-out insights and notable anomalies, along with business implications, spotted in the course of delivering these views to stakeholders.
  • Cooperate with engineering and devops to deploy updates and make sure B.I. tools remain functional through other system changes.
  • Make sure data governance and compliance requirements are met in the delivery of business intelligence insights.
  • Field ad-hoc requests for deriving new insights from our data resources.
  • Advise on data requirements related to new product development and enhancements.
  • Create data visualizations that effectively communicate complex ideas within large data sets to a broad audience.


  • At least 3-5 years of professional experience in business analytics
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, statistics, analytics or a related quantitative field. MBA, a plus.
  • Solid SQL skills and a general understanding of database systems. You should be comfortable exploring the contents and relationships among hundreds of very large tables in order to track down data that will help you answer business questions.
  • Ability to translate data into meaningful business insights for decision making
  • Experience turning data into effective visualizations 
  • Working knowledge of statistical methods
  • Track record of successfully delivering projects on time
  • Strong communication skills, especially at being able to communicate complex information clearly to multiple parties
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills with the ability to instill confidence
  • Ability to manage project deliverables across several projects at a time

Desired skills:

  • Experience using cloud-based B.I. or dashboarding tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker, Metabase, GDS, Superset, etc)
  • Interest or experience in mobile technology and consumer behavior
  • Experience incorporating geolocation data into analysis
  • Experience with natural language processing or sentiment analysis
  • Conceptual understanding of applying machine learning
  • Track record of successfully contributing value through data analytics
  • Experience using R or Python, especially with dashboarding and/or visualization libraries

About You

You obsess over the details.  You blend technical ability with business acumen. While you are not necessarily a developer, you may have tinkered and are familiar with development methodologies. You are effective at connecting long-term vision to near-term objectives.

You are incredibly organized. Nothing slips through the cracks when you’re running a project. You measure everything. You are inquisitive, and you know how to listen and incorporate new knowledge into your projects. You have a knack for connecting the dots across multiple things and ensuring they are consistent. You know how to work collaboratively across teams in order to produce the strongest outputs.  Above all else, you are an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, and you understand how to effectively convey ideas to various stakeholders across the organization. 

You will have the opportunity to wear several hats, and you should be comfortable learning new things and taking on new responsibilities. You’ll spearhead strategic initiatives. You won’t hesitate to roll up your sleeves and do the dirty work to turn your concepts into reality.  You’ll team up with sales and marketing one day, dig through spreadsheets and data transformation tools another day, and deep dive with product and engineering the next. You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
