Project Engineer (Cedar Rapids, US)

Job Summary:

The Project Engineer (PE) will lead all technical aspects to delivering ITS Computer Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location (“CAD/AVL”) projects on budget, schedule and within cost. The Project Engineer will be expected to work towards expertise in all technical aspects of intelligent public transportation systems (ITS) project delivery. PE will be the on-site Trapeze implementation resource that works directly with clients on business process consulting, software configuration, testing, end user training, and support to ensure that the ITS product is delivered in the most efficient and effective manner possible. The PE will be the primary technical point of contact to the client during project implementation.

Job Description:


  • Facilitate project team and client meetings effectively
  • Lead technical project delivery tasks
  • Develop project documentation, including system docs, training materials and issues logs
  • Prepare and execute technical training plans and end user courses
  • Prepare and execute testing plans
  • Monitor and resolve customer issues in a timely fashion
    Deliver engaging, informative, well-organized presentations
  • Organizes testing assets as needed for delivery and support
  • Liaison to Development Engineering and System Integration Test for issue resolution
  • Up to 30% Travel


  • Degree in a relevant field of study is required. Ex: Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Management Information Systems (MIS), or Urban Transportation Planning
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


  • 2-4 years of experience in technical project delivery is preferred
  • Transportation Industry experience is an asset
  • Proficiency with and understanding of GIS solutions, including GIS applications ArcGIS
    and/or MapInfo
  • Basic understanding of Relational Database Management Systems, SQL Server and/or
  • Basic understanding of Business Intelligence Platforms
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Proficiency with networking concepts and computer hardware, system configuration
    and software installation
