Senior Technical Writer Back Office Products (Mississauga, CA)

Job Summary:

Trapeze Software group is looking for an experienced technical writer to develop product documents and training materials for our Operations (OPS) Back Office product line. This position is for full time permanent employment. The applicant must be able to grasp technical subjects quickly and be able to work independently and provide dependable results with little direct supervision.

Job Description:

The Senior Technical Writer will be responsible for writing customer use, maintenance and administration documentation, training materials and creation of videos that supports Trapeze Fare Collection product software and hardware releases for existing projects.


  • Responsible for ensuring that Trapeze OPS products are favorably represented in all customer documentation according to the current business strategy, translating correctly all available business, engineering and development design and specification documents for the end user.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with customer and company personnel.
  • Write product documentation and training materials that conveys the vision of system capabilities.
  • Facilitate customer needs for product documentation based on company-determined priorities of such needs.
  • Maintain close collaborative relationship with development/engineering to ensure quality documentation.
  • Provide operational guidance through documentation for Software Implementation and Training Personnel.
  • Assist manager in developing work schedules including identifying priorities, time required to complete tasks and special tools needed to complete requests.
  • May be required to create video presentations to support product training including writing the voice presentation guide, creating the video, providing editing and finalizing video product into a cohesive mp4 file.
  • Establish and maintain customer documentation workflow processes, exercising judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Effectively manage documentation deliverables to meet release schedules.


  • Specific degree or coursework in Technical Communication
  • 5+ years or more of technical writing experience.
  • Must be legally able to travel within Canada and the United States (10 - 20%).
  • Solve problems of diverse scope, analyzing data and identifying associated risk factors.
  • Effective use of established processes and procedures.
  • Research, comprehend, and communicate highly technical information quickly for the end user.
  • Understand the target audience of the document and how to convey information to various levels of proficiency and capabilities.
  • Work effectively with little to no direct day to day supervision.
  • Use of oXygen or similar single sourcing xml authoring tool preferable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including SharePoint.
  • Domain knowledge in the Transportation industry is preferred.


  • Previous experience with JIRA software
  • Knowledge of DITA structured content
