Event description

Glasgow 2016

The Congress will take place from 6 to 9 June at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) which is just a short walk from the City Centre on the banks of the River Clyde.

The Congress theme is “Delivering Future Cities Now” and is based on Glasgow’s pioneering work on Smart Cities which recently resulted in a £24M award and is based on the City’s and Scotland’s long history of innovation in Intelligent Traffic Control which started in 1967 with Europe’s first computerised traffic control system.

The event consists of an extensive exhibition, with an adjacent area for live demonstrations and a programme of high level and technical sessions providing the opportunity for the industry’s experts and political leaders to discuss current issues both formally at over 100 sessions and more informally during an extensive social programme.

The City’s Lord Provost will also invite Mayors of other European Cities to attend a Mayoral Summit during which solutions will be sought to common ITS problems experienced in European Cities.

The 11th European ITS Congress 2016 is proudly organised by ERTICO – ITS Europe in partnership with the European Commission, and hosted by Glasgow City Council and Transport Scotland.

Visit Scotland, the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC), ITS United Kingdom and the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau strongly support the event.

What is the European ITS Congress?

ERTICO ITS Europe organises either an ITS World Congress or an ITS European Congress every year.

The ITS World Congress rotates between Europe, the Asia Pacific region and the Americas, returning to Europe every three years. The ITS European Congress is held in the years when there is not a World Congress taking place in Europe.

The Congresses provide the ideal opportunity for all stakeholders to come together, discuss and make the necessary contacts to move initiatives forward and to develop their business by exhibiting and demonstrating state of the art ITS solutions. The Congresses also showcase the latest ITS achievements from the city and region hosting the Congress, and can help increase awareness of ITS in the Host region itself.

The ITS Congresses (European and World) consist of three main areas; Congress programme (sessions and presentations of the latest developments in ITS), Demonstration (showcases of current ITS technology being developed and deployed throughout the world) and Exhibition (exhibition booths and dedicated sessions/events). Participating in these three areas offers a unique opportunity to show and explain the latest technologies and services, with a slightly different focus for each.

During the Congress, ERTICO Partners also have the opportunity to arrange more focused ancillary events before, during and after the Congress, as well as having access to meeting rooms, lounge areas and hospitality rooms. ERTICO develops specific mobile applications, networking facilities, webinars, videos, interviews and articles on both topics in focus at the Congress but also on the different companies participating. This provides the ERTICO Partners with yet another means to promote their technologies and services.
