Formed in May 2010 by the merger of Transdev with Veolia Transport, Veolia Transdev operates in 28 countries. The former Transdev part of the business operates public transport contracts in France (85 cities, 44 districts), UK (3 cities), Portugal (1 city, 3 regions), Italy (5 cities, 3 regions), Spain (1 city), Germany (intercity, 3 regions) and Australia (3 cities); operates the tramways in Grenoble, Melbourne, Montpellier, Mulhouse, Nantes, Nottingham, Orléans, Reims, Strasbourg and Valenciennes, plus the Porto and Genova metros, and is designated operator of networks in Tenerife (under construction) and Madrid and Edinburgh (planned). The former Veolia operates passenger services, and is also contract operator of urban rail networks in Bordeaux, Barcelona, Boston, Melbourne, Rouen, and Stockholm.

Public authorities have increasingly made intermodal capability a key criterion in their tenders, seeking networks and mobility systems that optimize the transport offer and customer satisfaction.
To accompany passengers door to door, Transdev completes the missing links in the mobility chain, such as shared bicycles or electric cars. In Nice, France, for example, the urban transport offer includes all-electric car sharing, much sought by merchants for their in-town deliveries; the service is part of a multimodal network that includes public transport, park-and-ride locations for cars and bicycle sharing.
