  • Greener Journeys nominated for Sustained Marketing Excellence at UK Bus Awards 2016
  • Winner to be announced at Awards Presentation on November 23

Greener Journeys has been shortlisted for a prestigious award following a string of highly successful campaigns which highlighted the value of the bus to our society, economy and environment.

The nomination for the Sustained Marketing Excellence prize at the UK Bus Awards 2016 comes after several years of tireless campaigning by Greener Journeys to make the case for the bus.

Now in its 21st year, the UK Bus Awards celebrates examples of best practice which highlight the industry’s finest achievements and can be used to inspire managers and staff across the country.

Norman Baker, former transport minister and Chair of Bus Users UK, will present the gold awards to winners selected from over 270 entries, at an event ceremony hosted by BBC broadcaster Jane Hill on November 23.

Greener Journeys, the cross-sector campaign group dedicated to encouraging modal shift from car to bus, has run a series of hard-hitting carefully tailored campaigns over recent years, using robust evidence to demonstrate the economic, social and environmental benefits of bus travel.

Across all its campaigns, Greener Journeys has combined rigorous and credible economic analysis to consistently and convincingly make the case for modal shift and investment in buses and bus infrastructure. These include:

  • Bus Priority Works, a 2015 campaign highlighting the importance of investing in local bus infrastructure;
  • A Fair Deal for Bus Users, which made the case for the preservation of the Bus Service Operators’ Grant in the 2015 Spending Review;
  • Case for the Bus Pass, a 2014 campaign mobilising support for concessionary travel schemes among the public and political audiences; and
  • Catch the Bus Week, an annual campaign bringing together operators, local authorities and bus supporters to celebrate the benefits of bus travel.

Claire Haigh, Chief Executive of Greener Journeys, said “Greener Journeys campaigns tirelessly and wholeheartedly in support of the bus, and we are delighted that our sustained success has been recognised by the UK Bus Award judges.

We are justifiably proud of all our recent work, whether successfully fighting to preserve the Bus Service Operators’ Grant or championing local bus services during Catch the Bus Week, and will continue to ensure our voice is heard on all matters facing the bus sector in 2017.”

About Greener JourneysGreener Journeys logo

Greener Journeys is a campaign dedicated to encouraging people to make more sustainable travel choices. We aim to reduce CO2 emissions from transport by encouraging people to switch some of their car journeys to bus or coach instead. Switching from car to bus for just one journey a month would mean one billion fewer car journeys on our roads and would save two million tonnes of CO2 every year.
