At VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft Nürnberg, substantial renewals are lying ahead. All 42 underground twin railcars of the first „Nürnberg DT-1“ series, serving passengers for nearly 40 years, are to be replaced by 21 four-car articulated metro trains, starting in 2018. For this extensive project, VAG relies on r2p’s technology: in all new trains, the recorders, cameras and monitors will be “Made in Flensburg”. The respective software will be developed and delivered by the team in Flensburg, too.
The Nuremberg-based public transport operator has earned a worldwide reputation an innovative enterprise by launching Germany’s first fully automatic underground in 2008. In the first step of the current project, new trains will be earmarked for the underground line U1 that is presently operated under driver control, while they will be pre-equipped for fully automated operation. Central for the successful driverless operation are passenger security and the installed technology’s system stability. r2p’s solutions will immediately contribute to both aspects.
René Seliger, Project Director and Shareholder at r2p, says: "This confidence placed in us by VAG Nürnberg confirms r2p’s conviction that customer-specific solutions are not only in line with innovativeness, but that they can be enormously rewarding for both partners. The entire r2p team is glad to be part of this project.”
The rapidly growing r2p Group, headquartered in Flensburg, Germany, operates internationally in 27 countries with subsidiaries in Denmark and Brazil. The group cooperates closely with a partner company in Taiwan, a sales office in the United Kingdom, and local manufacturing in India.
