Passenger traffic on Russian Railways’ network increas by 2.1%

According to the latest figures, the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways transported 100.9 million passengers in September 2018, an increase of 2.1% over the same month last year. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 91.7 million, up by 1.6%, while long-distance passengers rose by 6.9% to 9.2 million.

Passenger turnover in September 2018 increased by 5.3% compared to the September 2017 and totalled 11.54 billion passenger-kilometres.

Suburban turnover amounted to 2.93 billion passenger-kilometres, an increase of 3.3%, while long-distance turnover rose 6% to 8.61 billion passenger-kilometres.

A total of 854 million passengers were carried during January to September 2018, which was up by 2.3% compared to the same nine-month period in 2017. Long-distance passengers were up by 8.2% to 85.3 million, while suburban passenger numbers rose to 768.7 million, an increase of 1.7%.

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways’ network rose by 5% since the beginning of 2018 compared to the first three quarters of 2017 and amounted to 101 billion passenger-kilometres. Suburban passenger turnover amounted to 24.4 billion passenger-km, up by 1.7%, while long-distance passenger turnover reached 76.6 billion pass-km, an increase of 6.1%.

Between January and September 2018, the Moscow Central Ring (MCR) transported almost 92.6 million passengers, an increase of 18.4%, including about 11.3 million journeys in September 2018 alone, a rise of 10.9%.
