This summer, VDL Bus & Coach delivered 30 VDL Citeas LLE and 13 VDL Futuras to Icelandic operator Kynnisferdir. This is not only the largest delivery in the history of VDL Bus & Coach for Iceland but it is also the first delivery for the public transport market. Kynnisferdir, which operates in the tour world under the name Reykjavik Excursions, have expanded their operations to include more public transport services. The VDL Citeas LLE will be deployed on lines operated for local public transport company Strætó bs.

We are proud of the fact that we may provide line services for Strætó. For us, the decision to expand our fleet with 30 VDL Citeas LLE for these line services is a logical choice. The extremely low kerb weight of this bus, with as main benefits significantly lower fuel consumption and lower maintenance costs, fits perfectly with our commitment to efficient, more sustainable and more environmentally friendly passenger transport,” says Kristján Daníelsson, Managing Director Kynnisferdir.

We are very pleased with this large delivery to Kynnisferdir and the fact that we are taking the first steps in the Icelandic public transport market. We hope to further expand the successful collaboration with Kynnisferdir in the future,” says Rémi Henkemans, Managing Director VDL Bus & Coach bv.

Besides the 30 VDL Citeas LLE, 13 Futuras were also delivered, including a new Futura FDD2 double-decker. With the delivery of this Futura FDD2 double-decker Kynnisferdir not only has the first for Iceland but for the whole of northern Europe. Another unique aspect is that Kynnisferdir's VDL Futura FDD2 is the only double-decker coach on the island, equipped with all the latest technologies and conveniences.

VDL Citea LLE: innovative, lightweight concept

For the VDL buses with a lightweight construction the focus is on achieving better fuel economy and the resulting emissions reductions. Naturally the buses also continue to meet the highest safety standards. In light of the current cost pressure, the choice for the VDL lightweight concept is a logical step for passenger transport companies that not only want to provide the best possible transport for their passengers but also seek to reduce emissions of harmful substances. The Citeas LLE for Kynnisferdir have a length of 12 metres, a 2+2+1 door configuration, seating for 33+3+1 (including wheelchair space) and space for around 42 standing passengers. The low floor construction at the entry and exit doors provides optimal accessibility for wheelchair users and passengers with baby buggies. All the buses are equipped with free Wi-Fi.
