VDL Bus & Coach introduces new Futura double-decker during Busworld 2015

VDL Bus & Coach introduces new double-decker

The new VDL Futura double-decker will be introduced to the general public for the first time during Busworld 2015. With its sophisticated, streamlined, modern design, the VDL Futura FDD2 is the next milestone in the high-end VDL Futura family. With a capacity of up to 96 passengers, VDL Bus & Coach offers both the discerning holidaymaker and the intercity business passenger a comfortable and suitable transport solution. The fuel-efficient powertrain in combination with the aerodynamic styling guarantee low fuel consumption and thus low CO2 emissions. The VDL Futura FDD2 is the coach that not only optimally contributes to ‘Profit of Ownership’ but will also become the showpiece of many coach companies.
VDL Bus & Coach will be in hall 4 at stand 404. Busworld 2015 will be held from 16 to 21 October 2015.

VDL Futura family

The new VDL Futura FDD2-141/510 is a true member of the Futura family, with the instantly recognizable VDL identity. The FDD2 is another fine example in the long tradition of VDL-built coaches. With its distinctive design and height of four metres it is a real eye-catcher on the road. The Futura family history is tangible in the prominent and very recognizable logo and the design language, as seen in the front, headlight units and design elements in the sides and back. In addition to the Futura FDD2 VDL Bus & Coach will also have a Futura FHD2 and Futura FMD2 on display. The FHD2-139/460 has a length of 13.9 metres, seating for 57+1+1 and is fitted with an MX-13 340 engine. This 3-axle coach is equipped with a lift for wheelchair passengers above the rear axle. The Futura FMD2-129/370 has a length of 12.9 metres, seating for 59+1+1 and is fitted with an MX-11 271 engine. The wide centre door is equipped with a cassette lift in the stairwell to enable disabled passengers to safely enter and exit the coach too. The Futura FMD2 recently won the IBC Economy Award. The focus of the 2015 edition of the International Bus & Coach Competition (IBC) was the intercity coach. A number of experts in the field subjected the participating coaches to a battery of tests conducted over five days at the beginning of May 2015. The VDL Futura FMD2 was the undisputed winner for most cost-effective coach. The IBC Economy Award is presented during the Busworld 2015 press day.

News in the field of E-Mobility

Alternative powertrains are becoming an increasingly important issue among passenger transport companies that keep an eye to the future in their public transport plans. VDL Bus & Coach offers the opportunity to choose from various electric drive systems, battery packs and charging systems so the most ideal and optimal combination can be selected for every deployment area, without consequences for accessibility, interior layout or comfort.
An important step in the expansion of the electric bus range took place earlier this year with the introduction of the VDL Citea SLFA Electric. This electric, articulated bus with a length of 18.1 metres built in an updated, futuristic BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) design will be on display in the outdoor area. The Citea SLF Electric, which will be shown on the VDL Bus & Coach stand, has a length of 12 metres and is equipped with a Siemens drive system and a pantograph. One of the Citea SLF Hybrids, from the large order of 120 units placed by Belgian passenger transport company De Lijn in 2014, will also be present in Kortrijk.

Premiere VDL Citea LLE 3-door version

VDL Bus & Coach will present a 3-door version (1-2-1) of the Citea LLE-120 for the first time at Busworld 2015. With this version an even greater range of applications is expected for this lightweight champion. With the Citea, VDL Bus & Coach offers a comprehensive range of city and regional buses. The modular construction of the Citea range allows all the models to benefit from the characteristic Citea features. The innovative lightweight construction means the Citeas have a low net weight. This, combined with efficient engines, results in less fuel consumption and lower emissions of harmful substances. The modular approach also means that a custom solution can be provided for every deployment area. A continuous low floor or low-floor constructions at the entry and exit doors improve accessibility. A perfectly balanced climate control system ensures the most optimal temperature on-board. Harmoniously matched colours give the bus a very spacious feeling. The cantilever seat design (free-hanging seats) ensures plenty of leg room and therefore optimal sitting comfort. Since the entire floor is free of obstacles, the buses are easy to clean. The modular construction also provides many benefits in connection with repairs, maintenance and stocked parts. Add to that the long service life of the Citea and the result is maximum ‘Profit of Ownership’.

VDL mini & midi buses

The VDL MidCity was developed exclusively for public transport and includes a multifunctional area with a low floor that is ideal for use as standing room or for wheelchairs. This conversion to a low floor bus is a speciality VDL Bus & Coach developed itself, which offers enormous flexibility. The MidCity shown in Kortrijk is what is called a dial-a-bus, built on the basis of a MB Sprinter. This MidCity has 13 seats (including 2 folding seats) and 9 standing spaces and is wheelchair accessible. Its compact dimensions (total length is 6.944 metres) make the MidCity highly manoeuvrable and therefore ideal for transport in the narrow streets of old city centres.
With the MidEuro, VDL Bus & Coach presents a compact tour bus specifically intended for the luxury passenger transport segment with up to 22 seats. It is an ideal vehicle for travelling with small groups, and with its environmentally-friendly engines and optimal reconfiguration options the MidEuro also serves well as a cost-effective all-rounder for public line transport.
